Paul Bonelli Personal Work

 These are all woodcut prints, my primary medium.  Black and white images are standard relief woodcuts, while color images are hand colored, in the tradition of Europe in the middle ages, using watercolor paints.  Click on images to enlarge them. A History of Art  shows many of the things that inspired me to be an artist and influenced the art that followed. The structure borrows from Bruegel's Tower of Babel paintings, while the items all were things from my life.  These next four are from a series called  Ecclesiastes , a visual adaptation of the Old Testament book, meant to carry the same effect as reading the original text, but through more contemporary imagery. These next four are from a series called Everyman , based on my reading of Butler's Lives of the Saints , an authoritative work that collects biographical information about every saint recognized by the Catholic Church, past or present. Student Work- 2D Design

 These projects were all designed to work with principles of art and design valued by the schools.  New projects can be created to suit the needs of new schools. Above and below, stipple drawings from black and white photographs, showing source photo and student drawing. black and white logo color temperature collage- two seasons of the year (acrylic paints on paper) color wheel/tints and shades/complementary color mix, acrylic paints on paper color still life paintings, acrylic paints on paper The next four are studies of color palettes, students given 6 options, of which they had to choose 4 to do.   Image source was a black and white photo of their choosing.  Values in the source were to be a factor in how the colors were chosen. The next two are examples of a project where students were asked to create a board game with the design based on the artwork of a particular artist of their choosing.  Game theme/title would relate to that as well. ...
